I set both on flash and they are extremely bright and can be seen from a long ways off. They might even annoy some drivers. There is no excuse for any driver to say that they didn't see if you were in an accident. These are mounted on my helmet so I will always have a light with me no matter what bike I am riding and I use these along with the Planetbike front and rear lights installed on my bikes. But they could be your only light source, sometimes I only use the Fleas, but it is better to be safe than sorry. I also have the USB and the Solar charger so I don't have to worry about charging them when I need to. I haven't found anything to complain about with these lights and I am thinking about getting another set.When charging, the lights flash very dim but when fully charged they flash bright, you will know when... Now I'm in the market for something to replace these headaches.I started out liking these lights for their light weight and small size, but now I wish I had spent the money elsewhere. The lights are rather bright, but have some serious drawbacks. GRIPE ONE: Blackburn incorporates a velcro strap mounting system. This works with a metal clip on the rear light, fastening it the light to the seatpost. However, the LED lights on the Flea are VERY directional! This means that their true brightness is only seen via direct line of sight to the LED's. Since all bikes have seatposts that slant rearward, by default your Flea shines toward the ground about 12-15' behind you, and NOT toward the traffic approaching. The lack of a proper mounting system that allows the light's beam to shine parallel to the ground (not at it) is incredibly frustrating. However, they are very light, very bright, and you can charge them using any USB port. I think it's great that I can top these off at work each day and I don't have to worry about batteries. |
