I have 2 longboards and the straps worked great.....they snug up quite well....the lock is smooth and sturdy and wrapped in rubber....the straps themselves are very sturdy and it is nice knowing there is a steel cable running through it.... I was looking at the Steelcore straps but I think Yakima bought them out....anyway....these are a great purchase...oh...and it comes with a bag to put the straps in when they are not in use....:)  Good security for your SUP, surfboard or kayak, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Yakima Ripcord Locking Rack Straps (Sports) I purchased the Yakima Ripcord locking straps after first looking at the Steelcore brand locking straps. The Steelcores are nice, but were more expensive and did not have the rubber padding around the locking device. The Yakima straps work well to lock my racing SUP boards to my roof racks, and work quite well as tie down straps in general. The locking mechanism works smoothly, and it's easy to get them to cinch up tightly without worrying about crushing the rails of my delicate race board. My only complaint is that the straps are pretty stiff, which makes them a bit unwieldy when wrapping them around the board and racks. I did add a loop of shock cord and a cord lock to each one so that I can easily coil up the excess strap and bundle it neatly on top when the straps are in use. The Steelcore straps include this feature, but it was simple to add to the Yakimas. They also come with a nice mesh sack for storage, and they use standard Yakima style keys. Read more Excellent locking straps, easy to use and remain tight, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Yakima Ripcord Locking Rack Straps (Sports) These straps are great for surfboards, I am using for one/two/three stand up paddle boards and the straps are easy to start and easy to tighten. They stay tight for a long time, are well padded and are easy to remove. The stiffness provided by the cable makes it so the remaining cord easily wraps around something and stays while driving. The only negative I found so far is I have had the straps hit me when pulling them out which hurts since they have metal cable in them, once I realized that I am more careful pulling them free. All in all these are great locking straps and I feel safe leaving stand up paddle boards on my car with them. |
